How to use
Free to use with no sign-up, no install and no usage limit.
Paste text and every character is listed with its code point, its category and how many bytes it takes in UTF-8. Anything invisible is marked in the list and counted at the top.
Invisible characters are the reason this tool exists. Text copied from a web page often carries a zero-width space, and two strings that look identical then fail to compare equal — with nothing on screen to explain why.
Non-breaking spaces are the other frequent culprit. Text from a word processor can be full of them, and a search for an ordinary space finds nothing.
Three different lengths are shown because they disagree. One emoji is one character to a reader, two units to JavaScript’s length, and four bytes on disk — and a field limited by the wrong one rejects input people can see is short enough.
The clean button removes the invisible characters and turns unusual spaces into ordinary ones. Deleting the spaces outright would run words together, so they are replaced rather than dropped.
Each character can be copied in the notation you need: JavaScript, HTML, CSS or percent-encoding for URLs.
Nothing you paste is sent to a server. Everything runs inside your browser.
