Enter a date on either side and the other appears. Korean ancestral rites and many older birthdays are recorded by the lunar calendar, while every calendar app expects a solar date, so the conversion has to be done again every year.

The Korean lunar calendar is not the same as the Chinese or Japanese one. It is computed from the position of the sun and moon at the Korean standard meridian, so a date can fall a day either side of a Chinese calendar. This tool uses the table published by the Korea Astronomy and Space Science Institute.

Leap months are handled explicitly. Roughly every three years an extra month repeats the previous one, and a birthday recorded in a leap month simply has no equivalent in most years. The tool leaves those years blank rather than quietly moving the date, because some families observe the ordinary month and others skip the year entirely.

For a lunar birthday, the list of coming years shows the solar date for each one so you can put them all into a calendar at once instead of returning every January.

The sexagenary cycle name is shown alongside, in Korean and in the Chinese characters, which is what appears on older documents and memorial tablets.

Conversion covers 1391 to 2050, the range the published table actually guarantees. Outside it the arithmetic still produces a number but it can disagree with the real calendar, so the tool refuses rather than giving a plausible wrong answer.
